Ceremony set for Aug. 23 to celebrate 10th anniversary of Drug Court

In celebration of the 10th anniversary of the North Central Judicial District’s adult drug court, a celebration ceremony will be held on Aug. 23, at 9 a.m. at the Ward County Administrative Building, according to a press release from the North Dakota Department of Corrections. North Dakota Supreme Court Justice Lisa McEvers will deliver the keynote address.

As part of this event the agency will celebrate the successful completion of the 65th participant to graduate from the adult drug court program in the North Central District, since the court’s inception in 2008. During the celebration they will recognize the many accomplishments of past and present participants and thank those who have supported the program for the past 10 years.

The ceremony marks their completion of an intensive program of comprehensive substance use disorder treatment, close supervision and accountability.

According to the press release, such programs help reduce addiction, crime and recidivism rates and help save lives and assist families.

There are more than 3,000 treatment courts in the United States annually serving 150,000 people, according to the press release. Since 1989, treatment courts have saved more than 1.5 million lives and billions of tax dollars.
