Kayla Darling, Minot, charged with simple assault on police officer

Kayla Marie Darling, 26, Minot, is accused of kicking a police officer in the hand when he was trying to put her into a patrol car on Sunday.

Darling is charged with simple assault on a police officer, a Class C felony, in district court in Minot. She was scheduled to make an initial appearance in court before Judge Doug Mattson on Monday.

According to the probable cause affidavit filed with the court, police were trying to arrest Darling for detox in the 1100 block of 31st Avenue SE and she physically resisted their efforts to handcuff her and carry her to the vehicle. She allegedly tried to punch one of the officers when he grabbed her arm in an attempt to make her stop. Another officer, Minot Police Officer Andrew Roach, wrote in the affidavit that Darling also tried to bite him. As a third officer tried to get her into the vehicle, she allegedly resisted and kicked him in the hand.

Darling was evaluated at Trinity Hospital and then taken to the Ward County Jail. She was scheduled to make an initial appearance in district court in Minot on Monday before Judge Doug Mattson.
