Conservation Day planned at zoo
Roosevelt Park Zoo in Minot will observe Conservation Day on Sunday from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
The event is open to everyone. Those with zoo passports can have their passports stamped at eight activity stations at the zoo as they make a trip around the zoo to learn about endangered species and conservation efforts. The final destination will be the Roosevelt Park Zoo Express. Passports are available for purchase at the zoo.
“Most of the activity stations are mini projects our zookeeper interns have researched: Palm Oil Sustainability, composting at home, recycling – and then some information stations on conservation efforts in the wild that we support,” said Jennifer Kleen, Minot Zoo Crew executive director.
Conservation efforts the Minot zoo supports include South African Foundation for the Conservation of Coastal Birds (for the South African black footed penguins) and Red Panda Network along with North Dakota/North American conservation efforts.
In addition to zoo admission price, ticket costs for Conservation Day is $2 for members and $3 for nonmenbers. The price includes a train ride for one. All proceeds go to the zoo’s Change for Change Conservation Fund.
