Increased releases from Garrison Dam

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers increased releases through Garrison Dam from 44,000 cubic feet per second to 47,000 cfs. The Corps says they are planning another increase to 50,000 cfs today and to 52,000 cfs Wednesday.

According to the Corps, the releases are being increased due to a continuation of high inflows from melting mountain snowpack and rainfall runoff.

The releases from Lake Sakakawea into the Missouri River will result in a rise at Bismarck of about about 1.5 feet. The Corps expects the river to crest in the Bismarck area at about 12 feet. During the flood of 2011 the Missouri crested at Bismarck at 19.25 feet. It reached 12.08 feet on Jan. 23, 2012.
