FU Oil patrons vote to join Enerbase

VELVA – Patrons of Farmers Union Oil Co. of Velva have voted to merge their organization with Enerbase of Minot.

A Farmers Union Oil spokesperson confirmed the vote Wednesday was affirmative.

Interim manager Cam Erickson had stated last month that the company’s losses and financial position led to the decision to consider a merger with another strong entity to preserve patron equity.

Earlier this year, Farmers Union Oil closed two shops and its Velva hardware to focus on its profitable business lines. It still operates the convenience store on the west side of Velva and a convenience store in Drake, although the Drake store was downsized. The company continued its bulk petroleum and agronomy services.

As a larger entity in sales volume, Enerbase will be much less impacted by the merger, making a vote of its membership unnecessary in the merger.
