Man sentenced to jail for punching, choking girlfriend

A 33-year-old Red Lodge, Mont., man will serve up to another month in prison for punching and choking his girlfriend on March 12, 2017.

Arthur Russell Whitebody entered an Alford plea on Wednesday in district court in Minot to aggravated assault – domestic violence, court records show. The Alford plea means he maintains his innocence but recognizes he might be found guilty at trial.

Judge Gary Lee sentenced him to one year in jail, with all suspended but 60 days. He will receive credit for 30 days already served in jail plus four days of good time. Lee also ordered Whitebody to complete a class for domestic abusers, to obtain a chemical dependency evaluation, and to pay $1,100 in court costs. He will be on supervised probation for two years. If he successfully completes probation, the C felony will be reduced to a Class A misdemeanor.
