Jessica Schwartz shaves the head of Lucas Knight during the Brave the Shave event in Minot on Friday at the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Hall. Volunteers solicited donations from friends and family to raise money for pediatric cancer research and to help families of children with cancer in North Dakota. Knight was one of 26 people who participated in the fundraiser. People had their heads shaved in solidarity with cancer patients, many of whom lose their hair during necessary cancer treatment. Knight said he wanted to give back and help families of children battling cancer. Taner Ohlsen, family representative for Brave the Shave in Bismarck, said this is the 11th year that the organization has held events but this is the first time one was held in MInot. More than $450,000 has been raised in North Dakota, he said. More money has been raised this year than in other years. Ohlsen hoped the event in Minot on Friday would raise about $15,000. “This is the first of many in Minot, I hope,” he said.
