Rick Berg elected chairman of North Dakota Republican Party

BISMARCK – Former Congressman Rick Berg has been elected to serve as the chairman of the North Dakota Republican Party. Berg was elected chairman by unanimous ballot during a meeting of the state committee on Tuesday evening.

“I am excited for the opportunity to lead the Republican Party through this busy election cycle,” said Berg. “Our convention is right around the corner and I am confident that our Republican team will work harder than ever to earn North Dakota’s support.”

Berg served in the North Dakota House of Representatives from 1985 to 2011, including time spent as chairman of the House Republican caucus, Speaker of the House and House Majority Leader. He was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2010, serving on the House Ways and Means Committee. He now leads Berg Group, a Fargo-based real estate development and management firm.

Former Chairman Kelly Armstrong resigned from the post earlier this month to announce that he would seek the Republican endorsement for the U.S. House.
