Pedestrian killed when struck by vehicle in Towner

A 77-year-old Towner man was killed when he was struck by a vehicle on Main Street in Towner on Monday evening.

Thomas F. Miller was taken by ambulance to a hospital in Rugby and later pronounced dead.

According to the North Dakota Highway Patrol, the driver, William J. St. Clair, 60, of Parshall, was traveling north in the northbound lane of the roadway when an object fell off his passenger seat. St. Clair reached to pick up the object and swerved to the left, striking Miller with the center of his vehicle. Miller had been walking in the southbound lane, headed north.

Charges are pending against St. Clair.

The accident happened at 6:44 p.m. Monday.
