Man sentenced for interference with 911 call

A 19-year-old Minot man pleaded guilty Tuesday to interfering with an emergency call, a Class C felony, during a domestic altercation on Jan. 30, according to court records.

Joseph Luther Lucas was sentenced to 360 days in jail, with all time suspended except the 50 days he has already served, and two years of supervised probation. Judge Doug Mattson also ordered him to complete a class for domestic violence offenders and to pay $2,351.20 in restitution. He was also ordered to pay $1,100 in court costs.

Lucas has also originally been charged with aggravated assault, a Class C felony. He had been accused of choking his girlfriend during the incident. Court records show the charge was reduced to simple assault, a Class B misdemeanor, on Tuesday.

According to court documents, Lucas also threw a TV in the residence to the floor and stomped on its screen during the incident. Lucas also grabbed the woman’s phone and threw it on the floor, shattering its screen, during the dispute.

Lucas and the woman share a child together. The woman sought help elsewhere after the incident.
