Man charged with beating, choking girlfriend
A 19-year-old Minot man is accused of beating and choking his girlfriend on Jan. 26.
Joshua Odell Luzell Royster is charged in district court in Minot with aggravated assault – domestic violence, a Class C felony. He was scheduled to make an initial appearance in court on Wednesday.
According to the probable cause affidavit filed with the court, Royster’s girlfriend told police that Royster punched her on the side of the face with a closed fist and knocked her to the ground, got on top of her and choked her with both hands. He had also slapped her on the neck and the face multiple times during their argument. She asked him to leave her apartment and he failed to obey her. The woman had red marks on her face and neck and a bloody nose when she spoke to officers.
The woman told police that she and Royster had been arguing because Royster was texting another woman.
The woman was able to get an audio recording of the incident. According to the affidavit, Royster can be heard threatening the woman on the recording and the woman can be heard crying and screaming and telling Royster to get off her.
