Several Ward County 4-H members have been traveling around the state to compete in archery matches. Ethan Myers of Minot, competing in Senior Freestyle, has gone undefeated in two matches.

Archery categories are split by age and type of bow. Ages are Beginner, ages 8 to 10; Junior, ages 11 to 13; and Senior, ages 14 to 18. There are two types of bows, Barebow and Freestyle. Barebows have no sights or releases. If a bow has either a sight or release, the contestant competes in the Freestyle category.

The first contest of the 4-H Archery season was the Southwest District Archery match in Bismarck on Jan. 27, where Myers took first in Senior Freestyle with a score of 293. Also competing from Ward County in the Senior Freestyle were Tate Novodvorsky of Douglas and Kaden Korgel of Minot.

In a large Junior Freestyle contest, Karter Myers of Minot received fifth place for his score of 137 and Sarah Potts of Minot received 10th place for her score of 128. Other Ward County youth who competed in the Junior Freestyle included Jacob Saunders of Minot, and Clay Fegley of Berthold. In Junior Barebow, Elizabeth Michel of Berthold competed.

In Beginner Freestyle, Layne Korgel of Minot led the way for Ward County, placing third with a score of 117. Miranda Novodvorsky of Douglas finished in seventh place, scoring 87 points. Claire Fegley of Berthold also competed.
