Walker sentenced on GSI charge

A 39-year-old Stanley man will serve five years in prison for having sex with a girl when she was 14 in 2012.

Shadwick Walker entered an Alford plea in August 2017 to the Class A felony charge. The Alford plea means he maintains his innocence but acknowleged he might be found guilty if the case went to trial.

According to a listing on the North Dakota Courts site, Judge Gary Lee sentenced Walker on Thursday to 15 years in prison, with 10 years suspended, and five years of supervised probation. The sentence will run concurrently with a sentence for corruption of a minor. A jury found Walker guilty of that charge in March 2017. The same jury had found him not guilty of one Class AA felony gross sexual imposition charge and deadlocked on the second Class A felony GSI charge, to which Walker entered the Alford plea in August 2017.

Lee also ordered Walker to complete sex offender treatment, register as a sex offender and pay $1,025 in court costs. Walker was also forbidden from contacting the victim.
