City passes snake ordinance

An ordinance allowing snakes as pets in Minot passed on first reading at the Minot City Council meeting Monday.

Snake enthusiasts will have to wait another month for a second reading before shopping for new pets, and the number of snakes per household will be limited to four. A ban will remain on boa constrictors and all venomous and non-venomous injurious snakes as defined by the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service.

The council also approved on second reading an ordinance that makes it an infraction, subject to a fine up to $1,000, to feed wildlife.
