Beavers fall 80-78 in double overtime
DULUTH, Minn. — The Minot State men’s basketball team’s losing streak hit five games on Friday after coming up just short of a road victory against Minnesota Duluth. MSU fell 80-78 in double overtime.
Tied at 65 apiece in regulation, MSU had a chance to win on a last-second shot, but point guard Luis Ricci Maia’s would-be game-winning layup rimmed out, sending the game to overtime.
The same situation arose at the end of the first overtime, this time tied at 75. Ricci Maia again had a chance to be the hero and took a 3-pointer for the win, but it fell short.
Duluth made five straight free throws in double overtime to hold off the Beavers.
Tyler Rudolph had a team-high 21 points for MSU, while Russ Davis finished with 18, David Akibo chipped in 13 and Ricci Maia scored 11.
Brandon Myer had a game-high 25 points for Duluth, while Jake Wilson scored 18.
MSU (17-8, 11-8 NSIC) is back in action at 6 p.m. today against St. Cloud State.
