Wilder case headed to Supreme Court

A Minot man who murdered his children’s mother is asking the State Sup-reme Court to overturn a no contact order preventing him from contact with the children.

Richie Wilder Jr. was convicted of Class AA murder in the November 2015 stabbing death of his ex-wife, Angila Wilder, and sentenced to life in prison in May 2017. North Central District Court Judge Gary Lee also ordered that Wilder have no contact with his two children by Angila Wilder, a 12-year-old daughter and a 6-year-old son. Lee later modified that order and will allow the children to decide whether to have contact with their father after each has reached age 18. Wilder is now appealing the modified no contact order as illegal. The Ward County State’s Attorney’s Office argues that Lee’s order was correct.

The case is scheduled to be heard on Feb. 27.

Wilder’s current wife, Cynthia Wilder, pleaded guilty to helping him plan the murder and is awaiting sentencing.

The Wilder children are living out of state with their maternal grandmother, who has been appointed their guardian.
