Man charged with choking fiancee

A 28-year-old Minot man is accused of choking his fiancee during a domestic altercation early Tuesday morning.

Jason Joseph Alumbaugh is charged with aggravated assault, a Class C felony carrying a maximum sentence of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine. He was scheduled to make an initial appearance in district court in Minot on Wednesday.

According to a probable cause affidavit filed with the court, Alumbaugh was angry with the woman because she didn’t want to go out that evening and she was trying to stop him from leaving the apartment. At one point during the argument, he allegedly put her into a chokehold for about 10 seconds. Police were called at 12:32 a.m. Tuesday.
