Deadline looms for student competition

Only days remain for Minot fifth-graders to share their affection for their hometown and win a chance to play a role in the inaugural State of the City event. The deadline for submissions is Friday.

“We want to hear from the youth of our community, and that’s why I’d like to challenge all Minot fifth-graders to write about why they love calling Minot their home in 350 to 500 words,” said Mayor Chuck Barney when the contest was launched. “There are so many great things happening in our community, and I’ll be very interested to hear about Minot from the perspective of our fifth-graders.”

The winner will be invited by the mayor to read their essay at the State of the City event scheduled for early February. Other top essays will also be on display at the event.

“This is our first-ever State of the City event, and we think it’s important for the youth of our community to be represented at the event,” Barney said. “We’re thrilled to partner with all of the school systems serving Minot to provide the opportunity for students to tell us why they love Minot.”
