Man charged with promoting obscenity to a minor

A 24-year-old Minot area man is accused of sending pornographic images to a 13-year-old girl using Snapchat last June.

Dillon Richard Jesz is charged with two counts of promoting obscenity to minors, both Class C felonies carrying a maximum sentence of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine. Jesz could also be required to register as a sex offender if he is convicted.

According to a probable cause affidavit filed with the court and a press release from the Ward County Sheriff’s Office, the girl’s mother called authorities in October and complained that multiple people had been sending porn to the girl using Snapchat. The mother provided the girl’s cell phone to the sheriff’s office. A man sent the girl a sexually explicit image and video in June. On Aug. 30, the same man allegedly texted her another message telling the girl to skip school and come over to his house. Authorities investigated further and identified Jesz. Jesz allegedly admitted to sending the images to the girl and knowing that she is in high school, but said he thought the girl was 18. The girl told authorities that she did not tell Jesz her age, but he knows where she goes to school and she assumed he knew that she is 13. Jesz had also allegedly asked the girl to send him nude pictures of herself and to meet him for sex.

Jesz turned himself in on Thursday and has been released on bond. No initial appearance date has yet been scheduled, according to court records.
