Lake Region to offer drone class

Lake Region State College in Devils Lake will offer a class on flying an unmanned aerial vehicle Feb. 5 through 7. The cost is $195. The class size is limited to 12 students.

The 10-hour course will offer a combination of hands-on training and classroom instruction for those wanting to know more about operating a UAV. Participants will learn how to take off and land, fly the UAV continuously and in a pattern, and get comfortably flying the UAV and using its features, according to a press release from the college.

The classes will be held February 5-7 at Lake Region State College from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. each night. The course will have flight sessions, in person training, use of one of the college’s drone, and more.

Instructor Nicholas Bittner holds a 107 license for UAV operation and conducts aerial photography and video session for area business. He actively uses drone technology on his own farm and works with the NDSU Extension Research Center in Langdon. Bittner is a graduate of LRSC’s Wind Energy Technician program and teaches part-time for LRSC.
