Veterans Day programs planned

Minot and Harvey have announced their Veterans Day program planned for Saturday.

The Old Armory in the lower level of the Minot Municipal Auditorium will be the site for the Veterans Day program in Minot on Saturday at 11 a.m.

Master Sgt. Cristian Martinez with the 5th Medical Group at Minot Air Force Base, will give the address.

Loren Headrick, commander of the Minot Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 753, will serve as master of ceremonies.

The program will include Minot veterans organizations and auxiliaries, Angela Skones and accompanist Elizabeth Roberts, Pastor Dan Chell of Our Redeemers Church, Curt Hiller and McKenna Yarham of Minot High School Central Campus.

Martinez is the Health Promotion Flight Chief with the 5th Medical Group at Minot AFB. He is responsible for the health promotion efforts and funding for three elements and 12,400 dual wing beneficiaries all while supporting two-thirds of the nuclear triad. He also is Ophthalmic Air Force Global Strike Command functional manager where he supports eight installations, coordinates training, certification, integration, mentoring, modernization and deployment for 32 personnel. In addition, he is the major command consultant to the Air Force career field manager.

Martinez has a master’s of business administration in health management and is a board certified Paraoptometric technician by the American Optometric Association.

His assignments have included bases in California, Florida, Japan and North Dakota. He has supported nine humanitarian missions to Peru, Mexico, Alaska, Kingdon of Tonga, Cambodia and Sri Lanka and deployments in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

He has been at Minot Air Force Base since June. Prior to Minot AFB, he was with the 374th Airlift Wing at Yokota Air Base in Japan.

Buddy Poppies provided by the VFW will be distributed by Minot youth.

Harvey

The Harvey Veterans Day program will be held on Saturday in City Hall at 120 W. 8th Street. The community band directed by Chelsey Marchand will play at 10:15 a.m., followed by the program at 10:30 a.m.

Sen. Jerry Klein, N.D. Senate assistant majority leader, will be guest speaker.

Rose Deck, a retired Army colonel, will serve as master of ceremonies.

Others participating in the program are the Harvey Color Guard, Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion Auxiliaries, Harvey Boy Scouts, Pastor Phil Leer and Lydia Gessele.

The VFW Auxiliary will distribute poppies.

Noon lunch will be served after the program at the Harvey Public Library.
