Minot woman sentenced for stabbing sister

A 27-year-old Minot woman will serve about two years in prison for stabbing her sister during a domestic altercation on June 13, according to court records.

Sara Beth York pleaded guilty Thursday in district court in Minot to Class C felony aggravated assault – domestic violence.

Judge Doug Mattson sentenced her to five years in prison, with a requirement that she serve two years, followed by three years of supervised probation. She will get credit for 55 days already served. She must also pay $825 in court costs.

According to a probable cause affidavit filed with the court, the two women punched each other and pulled each other’s hair. York ran into the kitchen and her sister ran after her. York then grabbed a small steak knife from the kitchen drawer and stabbed her sister in the head. Her sister was treated at Trinity Hospital and needed nine stitches to close the stab wound in her head. York’s sister also had a black eye.

According to the affidavit, the sister was upset about her boyfriend and wanted to go into a bedroom where children were sleeping to retrieve some of the boyfriend’s property. York was trying to stop her from going into the bedroom.

In a separate case, York was ordered in September to serve a year and a day in jail for stealing from residents at Kalix, a facility that serves residents with disabilities. She pleaded guilty to three counts of theft and three counts of unauthorized use of personal identifying information for making unauthorized withdrawals from the accounts of some of the residents. She was sentenced to three years on each offense, with a requirement that she serve a year and a day in jail. The sentences for all six charges are being served concurrently. She will be on supervised probation for two years after her release and must pay restitution and court costs. Her boyfriend, Tre Kyzell Davis, was sentenced in October to time served and two years of supervised probation for making an unauthorized withdrawal from the account of a Kalix resident.
