Woman charged with beating man over head with lamp, guitar
A 26-year-old woman is accused of hitting a man multiple times with a lamp and a guitar at a Minot residence last May 5.
Teri Leigh Poitra, whose address is listed in court records as Grand Forks, is charged with aggravated assault, a Class C felony in district court in Minot. The charge carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
No charge was filed against Poitra until Sept. 5, four months after the incident, and she wasn’t served with the warrant until Tuesday.
According to the probable cause affidavit filed in the case, the alleged male victim went to Trinity Hospital for treatment of an injury to his right ear, which was bleeding heavily. The man told police that he had gone home and found the place a mess from a previous domestic altercation with Poitra. Poitra was angry and yelling at him and grabbed a lamp and hit him five or six times. She then picked up a wooden guitar and hit the man over the head with it another five or six times, causing the guitar to shatter into several pieces.
