The Minot Wreaths Across America is accepting sponsors for the Christmas wreath program. Wreaths can be ordered now through Nov. 22.

This is the fourth annual year for the Minot program conducted by the William G. Carroll American Legion Post 26 and Magic City Civil Air Patrol.

“Our goal this year is to reach sponsoring 1,000 wreaths so that we can support Arlington National Ceremony,” said Richard Reuer, coordinator of the Minot Wreaths Across America program.

In Minot, wreaths will be placed on graves of veterans at Rosehill Memorial Park’s Section 12 (Old Veterans Section). Other wreaths will be placed on the fencing areas along 11th Avenue SE.

Individuals, businesses, schools or groups can sponsor one or more wreaths at $15 each. Wreaths Across America will donate $5 for each sponsored wreath to the American Legion to help with its Youth and Children’s Programs including American Legion Baseball, Boys State, Boy Scout Troop 437, Oratorical Scholarship program and other veterans programs.

A ceremony for the laying of the wreaths will be held on Saturday, Dec. 16, at 11 a.m. in Vincent United Methodist Church at 1024 2nd Street SE in Minot. Hot beverages and cookies will be served after the ceremony in the church fellowship room.

Afterward, at noon the sponsored wreaths will be placed at Rosehill Memorial Park, Section 12 (Old Veterans Section). Everyone is welcome to help place the wreaths.

The first wreath will be placed at the marker for veteran Leslie Maupin of Minot. Maupin was a post commander of the Minot American Legion. John Sinn of Minot will be the honorary veteran to lay the first wreath at Maupin’s marker.

That day, 19 wreaths including a ceremonial wreath will also be placed at the Medal of Honor Monument at Roosevelt Park in Minot. A ceremonial wreath will also be placed at Sunset Memorial Gardens, north of Minot.

Sponsorships for wreaths are $15 each and made payable to “Wreaths Across America.” Checks should be mailed to Wreaths Across America, 1738 35th Avenue SE, Minot, ND 58701.

Personal wreaths – wreaths for specific veterans – are also available. Those wreaths also cost $15 each. Checks, designating personal wreath, can be sent to the above address.

Wreaths will be arriving in Minot on Friday, Dec. 15.

“We will need many volunteers to help count, sort and prepare wreaths for laying in Section 12 on Saturday, December 16, following the ceremony at Vincent United Methodist Church,” Reuer said.

Wreath applications are available at the Rosehill Memorial Park office. Next week applications will also be available at floral shops in Minot.
