Men charged with burglary, animal cruelty

Five people are facing theft and animal cruelty charges connected with a May 16 break-in at a locked secured animal facility belonging to Sky Can Ltd. in Cando.

According to court documents, Zachariah Miller Dahlen, from Devils Lake, is charged with Class C felony burglary for allegedly breaking the key padlock with a pocket knife and causing $37,138.54 in damages, with Class A misdemeanor theft of property for stealing two pigs from the pig operation in Cando and with three counts of Class C felony animal cruelty for allegedly stealing the pigs and putting them in the back of a pickup truck. Dahlen allegedly chased one of the animals through a bonfire and drove over a stolen pig and broke its back leg.

Jacob Allen Yankton, Fort Totten, is charged with Class C felony animal cruelty for allegedly throwing the stolen pig in the bonfire.

Patrick Thomas Bracken, Devils Lake, is charged with Class C felony accomplice to burglary, Class C felony accomplice to animal cruelty Class A misdemeanor and accomplice to theft of property.

Thomas Parker Reslock, Devils Lake, is charged with Class C felony burglary and Class C felony accomplice to animal cruelty and Class A misdemeanor theft of property.

Alec James Miller, Cando, is charged with Class A misdemeanor theft of property, Class C felony burglary and Class C felony accomplice to animal cruelty.

The men are charged in district court in Towner County.
