Committee to discuss Minot’s animal ordinances
An ad hoc committee to review Minot’s animal ordinance will hold its first meeting Sept. 20 at 3:15 p.m. in Minot City Hall, council chambers.
The committee, chaired by council member Shannon Straight, will be looking at existing animal restrictions and discussing whether changes are desired.
The ordinance lists 31 different animal restrictions, including those as specific as pigs and snakes and broader categories such as any animal found in a zoo or considered livestock. It also contains additional sections prohibiting ownership of fowl, pigeons and pit bulls in city limits.
The ordinance sets out exemptions for Minot Park District, animal performance events, service animals and pet shops that observe certain conditions.
