Man charged with aggravated assault

A 20-year-old man is accused of assaulting a 74-year-old man in Powers Lake on Saturday.

Michael Chase Walker made an initial appearance Monday in district court in Stanley on a Class C felony aggravated assault charge and three Class B misdemeanor charges of criminal trespass, criminal mischief, and possession/consumption of alcohol by a person under age 21. Bond was set at $2,500 cash or corporate surety according to court records and a preliminary hearing in the case was scheduled for Aug. 3.

According to a probable cause affidavit filed with the court, Walker had snorted pills and was drinking. He had been allowed to stay in a shack on a property in Powers Lake owned by Leonard Larson. Larson told authorities that Walker had taken his half gallon bottle of Black Velvet and drank most of it. Larson asked Walker to leave the main house and go to bed. Walker refused and attacked another man in the house, Paul Walters, who is 74. The alleged victim told authorities that he hit a metal vent when Walker pushed him to the floor and he was in a lot of pain and couldn’t walk. Walters was taken to the hospital in Stanley for treatment.

Police found Walker in the shack on Larson’s property and placed him under arrest. He was taken to the Mountrail County Jail.

Walker also allegedly damaged Larson’s television.
