Accidental cooking fire sets kitchen ablaze in southwest Minot

Working smoke detectors alerted a family to an early afternoon kitchen fire in southwest Minot Monday.

Crews from all four City of Minot fire stations responded to the call to the 200 block of 12th Street SW shortly after noon. Crews encountered heavy smoke conditions in the building but were able to extinguish the blaze before it could spread into other rooms in the house. An investigation into the cause determined it to be an accidental cooking fire. No one was injured.

The Minot Fire Department remindsd residents of simple tactics to limit injury and damage from cooking fires:

– Never leave cooking unattended.

– Teach children the dangers of playing in the kitchen.

– Practice exit drills so family members know what to do in the event of a fire.

Always ensure a functioning smoke alarm on each level of the home and inside each sleeping area.
