Selecting trash containers

Eloise Ogden/MDN Minot residents have the choice of three sizes of waste containers for the city’s new automated trash collection. The container at the left is the standard 65-gallon roll-out waste cart everyone will automatically receive unless a smaller 35-gallon waste cart, second from left, or larger 95-gallon waste cart’s selected. Selection must be made by April 1. These containers can be viewed at City Hall. The Public Works Department also has containers for viewing.

Minot residents who wish to receive a different size than the standard 65-gallon roll-out waste cart for the city’s new automated trash collection must make their selection by April 1.

This summer, the City of Minot will be introducing the new automated trash collection.

No action is required for residents to receive the standard 65-gallon waste cart, but to request a smaller or larger size, residents can visit minotnd.org/282/Collection-Carts or call 855-900-CART (2278) Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The small 35-gallon waste cart will hold three 13-gallon trash bags. Cost is $14.72 a month.

The standard 65-gallon waste cart holds six 13-gallon trash bags. Cost is $16.22 a month.

The large 95-gallon waste cart holds 10 13-gallon trash bags. Cost is $17.72 a month.

The monthly charge for the waste container includes pickup so the amount will be the total monthly garbage bill.

Residents must use their selected containers for 90 days before switching to a different size.

The three types of waste containers can be viewed on the first floor of City Hall weekdays from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and at the Public Works Department building from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

All of the new waste containers will be tan in color with black lids. Each container will have a bar code and serial number on the back for identification.

The plan is to deliver the new waste containers to residents during the week of July 8-16, and the new automated trash collection will begin the following week.

Residents who will require assistance from city sanitation workers to move the containers to the street for garbage collection days once the new system begins this summer should call the Public Works Department at 857-4140 for more information. They will need a doctor’s signature on a city form to obtain this service.

The new automated trash collection program will continue pickup twice a week.
