Potential for seasonal highway load restrictions as early as next week

BISMARCK – Due to continued warm weather patterns, seasonal load restrictions may be implemented on some North Dakota state highways as early as next week. Areas that may possibly see the first load restrictions of the season include highways in southwest and southeast portions of North Dakota.

The North Dakota Department of Transportation normally places load restrictions on some state highways from March to May, depending on weather conditions. However, load restrictions have been put into effect as early as mid-February. These restrictions typically remain in effect until roadbeds have stabilized enough to carry normal traffic.

Statewide seasonal load restriction information is available by calling 511, online at dot.nd.gov/travel-infoor through the Transportation Department’s web app at dot.nd.gov/travelinfo/ndroads.htm.

Load restriction email updates are also available at dot.nd.gov/roadreport/loadlimit/loadlimitinfo.asp.
