Minot man charged with reckless endangerment

Simmons

Bond was set at $10,000 Monday for a Minot man charged with reckless endangerment for allegedly firing shots in an alleyway outside the Ice Cold Ryders Clubhouse on Saturday.

Deangol Lamar Simmons, 26, made an initial appearance on the charges on Tuesday in district court in Minot.

According to a probable cause affidavit filed with the court, about 20 people were inside the clubhouse at 105 West Central Avenue when shots were fired at 12:50 a.m. Saturday. No one was injured.

One of the witnesses inside the clubhouse told police that they heard gunshots fired outside. The man said he saw Simmons, who was wearing a red sweatshirt and khaki pants, walk casually northbound from the alley, walk inside the clubhouse and place an object inside a trashcan inside the building. When they checked the trashcan, they found a Ruger LCP .38 handgun, which was turned over to officers.

Another witness told police that he heard several gunshots come from the alley, then saw several people running southbound from the alley. The man went back into the clubhouse and locked the door.

Police detained Simmons and placed him under arrest.

Simmons, whose address is given in court records as Ravenel, S.C., has a prior felony conviction from South Carolina. He has also been charged with felon in possession of a firearm. He faces up to 10 years in prison if convicted of both Class C felonies against him.

A preliminary hearing in the case is set for April 6 before Judge Doug Mattson.
