City Water Department actively searching for leak

Residents may experience a brief and abrupt loss of water as the City of Minot Water Department actively searches for a water main leak. The location of the leak is currently unknown, but is suspected to be east of the Fairgrounds.

The Water Department asks residents to report any lower than normal water pressure at their homes by calling the department at 701-857-4150.

“A leak like this can be very challenging,” said Assistant Public Works Director Jason Sorenson. “We have crews out trying to isolate different areas of town to find our problem area.

But because it hasn’t impacted homes directly, it’s hard to know where it may be.”

The Water Department first noticed a potential leak on Monday evening when an elevated reservoir was not properly filling. Since then crews have been working to pinpoint the source of the issue. Homes, businesses and apartments may notice a sudden loss of water. Water will be restored to those dwellings after crews assess potential issues. Any noticeable reduction in pressure should be reported to the Water department immediately.
