4 Bears Casino bringing raw, honest comedy act

Rodney Carrington to perform Saturday

Rodney Carrington has a variety of skills from comedy to music to acting, and they all tie together for him. He is bringing his show to North Dakota, Saturday at 7 p.m. with doors opening at 6 p.m. at 4 Bears Casino & Lodge.

Despite doing comedy since 1989, Carrington didn’t have it as his goal at a young age. While attending college for theater, he saw a show and thought, “Oh, I can do that,” and gave it a try.

“The first seven years I had to sleep in my truck and I drove wherever people would have me, but I was really enjoying what I was doing and waited it out and things improved,” Carrington said.

When asked about how he would describe his show, he said he couldn’t if he tried, saying it’s just raw and honest, based off of his personal life.

“The jokes make me laugh,” he said jokingly. “It’s hard to describe because really, I get everything from my own life, my own personal seed of truth.”

And after he started comedy, music followed quickly after. Over the years he has produced quite a few songs, with songs such as “Dancin’ with a Man,” “More of a Man,” “Show Them to Me,” and many more. His songs are comedic, coming from random jokes and melodies that pop into Carrington’s head while he goes about his life.

“I think my current favorite song to perform is my newest one, ‘Bean Flickin.” My newer ones are always my favorites, though I definitely enjoy them all,” Carrignton said.

Whenever he creates a new song, he does an audience test. He takes it and performs it and, depending on the reaction, keeps it or gets rid of it. It all depends on the laughter and reaction.

His career has taken him all around the U.S., Canada, and Australia, so he has a large fanbase to test his new jokes and music on.

Comedy has been his life for almost 30 years, but he isn’t inspired by other comedians. The people who inspire him to continue and improve in more than just comedy but life too, are the people in his life. His family and friends are his inspiration.

Tickets for the comedians show can be purchased from 4 Bears Casino’s site starting at $20.
