Magic City Misfits bringing fun and fantasy for Halloween season
All zombie lovers and horror fans be aware, the Magic City Misfits are bringing a screening of Night of the Living Dead to Minot.
The movie will be screened on Oct. 6 at the Vegas Hotel in the Monte Carlo Room at 8:30 p.m. The Magic City Misfits encourage those attending to dress up as zombies to add to the experience. Producer and co-director of the group, James Falcon, says they chose to screen this movie not only because it’s now the season for spooky movies, but also to honor George Romero who passed away in July.
“We’ve been wanting to do it for awhile but everything just sort of fell into place this year,” Falcon said.
The screening costs $5 and the money goes to putting together more shows, like their performance of The Rocky Horror Picture Show that they have put on each year since the group formed in 2015. They pay for everything themselves, from the fee to rent a room to costumes to the fee to play the movie.
This year’s Rocky Horror performance will take place Oct. 8 at the Vegas Motel at 9:30 p.m. The Magic City Misfits perform as a shadow cast, meaning the movie plays in the background while they perform alongside it to give a special experience. The performance is considered for adult audiences, so anyone under 17 must have a parent or guardian with them. There will be a bar for guests, so everyone will be carded as well.
The Magic City Misfits started in 2015 and is made up of roughly 20 members above the age of 18. Falcon said the group is open to anyone and everyone, with members coming from all walks of life.
“I wouldn’t necessarily call us a theater group, but we do act. We are kind of like a shadow cast, giving the audience a fun experience of seeing a movie and a play at the same time,” Falcon said.
