Corn maze open at Berry Acres

For the sixth year, Berry Acres has provided its annual corn maze for everyone to venture through.

Berry Acres is owned and run by Ashley and Calvin Berry. They opened in 2010, but were unfortunately flooded for the 2011 season. They started the maze as a fun family place where everyone could enjoy the maze, Ashley Berry said. There wasn’t anything like it in the area, so they thought it would be a fun addition to the Minot area.

This year’s maze is in the shape of Minot High’s mascot, the Magi, and is eight acres in size.

“We chose the magician because we wanted to do it as a community thing. The cheerleaders for Minot High work out here for our season, so we wanted to do it for them as well,” Berry said.

The corn maze is created by a hired man who comes in and within eight hours or so, has cut the shape of the maze out. From there, it is up to the Berrys and their workers to keep it tilled and clean.

When asked how the drought in the area affected the corn maze, Berry said “It is shorter than normal, but it’s still challenging and takes awhile to go through and get back out, but it is usually taller.”

Along with the Magi theme of the corn maze, the rest of Berry Acres was decked out in a Trolls theme, with known characters painted on to bales of hay. They chose fun characters for the kids, Berry said.

They offer a variety of different activities at Berry Acres. They have a mini maze, many different bales-of-fun areas, peddle carts, life-size checkers, daily mini golf, and a corn box that is fun for younger-aged children. On weekends from 11 a.m. – 6 p.m., they have a paintball wagon that takes guests around the corn maze and lets them shoot at targets; a hayride, a train ride, and a petting zoo on select dates.

In their building, Berry Acres also offers a variety of things for guests to buy, such as canned goods, take-home baked goods, a variety of vegetables and decorations.

“We try to add something new every year,” Berry said.

The season runs from Sept. 16 through Oct. 29, as long as the weather permits. Admission is $6 and children 3 and under are free. If you plan to go as a group, $1 is taken off of each person’s total, making it $5 each.
