Power of the beard

Beardstock continues to provide family fun, aid to homeless

Throughout Minot, Beardstock is considered an unofficial holiday that welcomes the warmth of spring, the sounds of bands and the sight of wooly beards.

For nine years, Beardstock has celebrated hair, culture, music and diversity.

Dan Hansen, the founder and coordinator of Beardstock, expressed great excitement about the upcoming festival.

“It’s cool to see how this event has transformed,” Hansen said. “It’s evolving into something really special and it feels good to see people coming together.”

During the hairy festivities, visitors can compete in the annual beard show, perform in a lip-sync competition while participating in fun interactive activities before enjoying signature subs from Magic City Hoagies.

In addition to the live performances by bands, poets and speakers, Hansen hopes that visitors discover a great show along with the spirit of giving.

“Beardstock was formed as a creative way to help raise awareness about the ever-pressing issue of homelessness,” Hansen said. “Our vision is to create a platform to make social injustice known through the power of music.”

Proceeds from Beardstock assist Minot area charities, shelters and programs designed to help the homeless.
