Dakota Handcrafters: Mike Grotte

Mail-box

Name: Mike Grotte • Current Hometown: Glenburn

How would you describe your specialty handcraft?

Bottle Trees

What or who inspired you to become involved in it?

I had seen examples of it in the background of movies and magazines, and researched them.

Cherry-electron

How long have you been doing this type of work?

10 years

Do you do it for your own pleasure or offer it for sale?

I have never sold one. The time involved in making one would make the cost too high to the average person.

Where can we see your handcraft?

Big-bonzi-in-winter

I have several examples displayed in my yard.

Is your handcraft available for sale and if so, where?

Not for sale

Have you taught others your handcraft and if so, would you be willing to teach it to others?

The time involved in the bottle tree construction is a restrictive factor in teaching the process, along with some tools which most people do not have (welders, and so on).

Tell us a little bit about yourself.

I’m a retired shop and art teacher with 45 years of background.
