Otto Bremer Trust awards grants to Minot, area organizations

ST. PAUL Minn. – A number of Minot and area organizations have been awarded grants from the Otto Bremer Trust.

“Being responsive to community needs has been a hallmark of OBT, and this round of investments exemplifies that commitment,” said Charlotte Johnson, co-CEO and trustee, Otto Bremer Trust. “Whether providing children’s dental care, job skills training, hunger relief, or supporting tribal populations, we are energized by the programs and organizations impacting the lives of people across the region.”

The Otto Bremer Trust, based in St. Paul, Minn., is a private charitable trust established in 1944 by founder Otto Bremer, a successful banker and community business leader. OBT owns 92 percent of Bremer Bank and also manages a diversified investment portfolio. The mission of OBT is to invest in people, places, and opportunities in the Upper Midwest. Minot and area organizations awarded grants includes:

– Bottineau County Coalition Against Domestic Violence, Minot, $30,000. To provide healthy dating/teen dating violence prevention and awareness activities in middle and high schools in Bottineau County.

– Cankdeska Cikana Community College, Fort Totten, $100,000. To provide general operations to continue efforts to increase higher education opportunities and academic support for the residents of the Spirit Lake Dakota reservation.

– City of Carrington, Carrington, $90,000. To assist the Carrington Fire Department with the purchase of equipment critical to the safety of its volunteer-based firefighting unit.

– Community Action Partnership -Minot Region, Minot, $40,000. To assist individuals and families with emergency housing assistance to avoid homelessness.

– Dakota Boys and Girls Ranch Foundation, Minot, $135,000. To update social enterprise infrastructure that financially supports the educational, psychiatric, and residential needs of at-risk youth and their families.

– Dakota Prairie Community Action Agency, Inc., Devils Lake, $50,000. For general operations to provide a wide range of emergency assistance to lower-income households to assist in securing and maintaining safe, affordable housing in the Devils Lake area.

– Good Samaritan Hospital Association, Rugby, $100,000. To provide preventative healthcare for women in Pierce and surrounding North Dakota counties.

– Minot Area Men’s Winter Refuge, Minot, $120,712. For the purchase of a 14-passenger bus and for general operations to support and shelter homeless men in Minot.
