Classic Rock Coffee to host benefit concert

Submitted photo Concertgoers can enjoy the legendary sounds of poet, songwriter and musician Rick Watson, Friday.

Classic Rock Coffee is providing the perfect blend of locally roasted coffee along with Magic City musicality Friday night, during “Coffee Lovers Unite,” from 7- 10 p.m.

Throughout the festive evening, concertgoers can enjoy the legendary sounds of poet, songwriter and musician Rick Watson, while helping to raise funds for Jo Khalifa, the owner of Mojo Roast Inc.

“Jo is from the Westhope area and she roasts her own coffee,” said Dan Hansen, the founder of Rock The Leaves in Minot. “Jo uses her business to impact the community both locally and worldwide.”

Across the Magic City, Khalifa’s generosity has assisted Minot’s hockey and soccer teams and her compassion has improved the educational experiences of students in Guatemala.

Twenty years ago, Khalifa’s life changed forever after contracting Lyme disease.

Although the local humanitarian and coffee roaster’s health fluctuates, her passion for helping the community is stronger than ever.

During the three-hour set, concertgoers alongside coffee enthusiasts can provide free will donations or enjoy signature beverages from Classic Rock Coffee including “Raspberry Beret,” “Sister Hazelnut,” “More Rockin’ Mint” and other popular favorites.

Fifty percent of sales made from the benefit concert go toward Khalifa’s medical fund.

In addition to enjoying signature coffee, teas, sandwiches and salads, Watson will showcase his unique blend of poetry and songwriting talents.

“It’s a privilege to work with Rick,” Hansen said. “He’s always encouraging everyone to follow their passion and he’s all about the arts. The people of this city and this state have a special place in Rick’s heart.”

Regarded as a state treasure and revered icon of the arts, Watson was appointed life time North Dakota Associate Poet Laureate and named 1978 Dakota Arts Quarterly state Songwriter.

Joining Watson are local singers and musicians Jazmine Wolff Schultz and The Denby Forest.

As the festive evening plays on, a silent auction will be available for concertgoers and coffee connoisseurs to participate in.

Some of the featured items include autographed memorabilia from boxing great “Sugar” Ray Leonard, mixed martial artist Tito Ortiz and rock stars Bon Jovi among a hosts of other popular items.

From empowering women who grow their own coffee to helping the hungry through her partnership with Rock The Leaves in Minot, Khalifa is using her company’s influence to positively impact women, children and families around the globe.
