Special reservation lion hunt opened

Parallel scratches on the neck of this horse match wounds expected to be inflicted during a mountain lion attack. The horse survived the attack despite multiple deep scratches, puncture wounds and a very deep cut to the neck. The incident happened last weekend near New Town.
NEW TOWN – The latest in a series of reported mountain lion encounters has prompted the Natural Resources Council to authorize a special mountain lion hunting season on a portion of the Fort Berthold Reservation. Fred Poitra, director of Three Affiliated Tribes Fish and Wildlife Division, made the announcement on Tuesday.
“It’s open May 13 to July 13 to whoever has a tribal furbearer license for one section of the reservation,” said Poitra.
